With an ever-increasing amount of organisations adopting a hybrid cloud computing environment, new research predicts that the global market will rise dramatically over the coming years. But what could this mean for your business?
In a new market research report, snappily titled: ‘Hybrid Cloud Market by Solution (Consulting, Cloud Integration, Cloud Management, Cloud Security, and Networking), by Service Model (IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS), by Region (NA, Europe, APAC, MEA, and LA) – Global Forecast to 2019’, it is estimated that the global hybrid cloud market will grow from £17.08 billion to £57.26 billion by 2019.
The Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) between 2014 and 2019 will be 27.3 per cent, according to the report’s publisher marketsandmarkets.com, with North America and Europe owning the largest global markets in terms of revenue. Almost half (48 per cent) of enterprises surveyed for the report said they are planning to adopt a hybrid cloud service in the near future.
There are many reasons why businesses are switching to hybrid cloud solutions, in which they operate using a combination of in-house IT and both private and public clouds; there’s integration, cloud management, and the flexibility that these services offer to businesses. Arguably one of the more obvious benefits is security and disaster recovery.
As hybrid cloud budgets increase, however, businesses must be ready to adjust. Soon (over the next five years, in fact) the Internet of Things will see anywhere in the region of 20 billion to 60 billion devices connected to cloud networks. The layers of virtualisation presented by some cloud providers at present will need to be countered by quick, easy, on-demand access to performance issues, zdnet.com reports.
While the argument for moving to a hybrid cloud service is well-made, that doesn’t mean the path to doing so is as clear. Attempting to bridge a gap yourself between all IT and cloud systems using plugins, filters, and adapters could create a whole host of issues down the line. As Citrix’s Lindsay Brown noted, even if a business can get its data to interact smoothly across hybrid cloud builds, security is still the pressing issue.
“As cloud computing isn’t just a product to be unboxed and installed, services need to be provided that allow for tailored approaches where hybrid cloud isn’t just accessible, but delivered with the services, security, control, and agility users demand,” she said.
